The discussion to have East Cobb form its own new municipality will signal doom for South Cobb. The interests pushing this dangerous initiative want to have the remainder of the county including South Cobb to continue to provide water, sewer, police and fire services to the new city for a nominal fee of one dollar per year. This makes no good sense from either fairness or financial criteria and in some circles would be described as a scam.

South Cobb has finally begun to emerge from decades of benign neglect and this is no time for our community to again be relegated to the back burner of economic development investment and political disenfranchisement.  The Six Flags initiative and Mableton Gateway projects, although lacking in certain aspects, still hold promise to improve quality of life and commercial and retail prospects when fully funded.

For too long decisions for the entire county have been disproportionally influenced by East Cobb interests. This is one of the factors that have contributed to the lack of enforcement of zoning regulations and the lack of incentives for developer investment in South Cobb.

The decision of voters in South Cobb and others across the county can help influence the outcome of pending run-offs set for August 21^st as well as setting the tone for any future discussions of this separationist suggestion by the BOC.
