Austell City Council Meeting
Tonight, the Austell City Council will hold its regular meeting at 7. The full agenda for the meeting is attached to this article and highlights are below.
The city will honor Officers Timothy Koutlas and Armando Cipriano for 15 years and five years, respectively, with the Austell Police Department.
As Mayor Joe Jerkins mentioned during his State of the City Address in February, the police department will have three new Crown Victoria patrol cars, which will be leased for three years each.
Finance Department Director Denise Soesbee said the city will only pay about $67,500 for the three-year lease of all three cars, with another $15,000 coming from insurance proceeds of other patrol vehicles.
The council members will also consider and vote upon an annexation application from Firdous Halwany, who owns a service station on Maxham Road.
Jerkins said Halwany applied for annexation to receive service from the city's fire and police departments.
If the council approves a $21,000 purchase of a New Holland WM45 tractor and bush hog attachment, city employees would use the equipment to cut right-of-way areas throughout Austell.
The funds for the purchase would come from SPLOST funds, said Austell Public Works Operations Manager Duane Demeritt.
