Sweet dog and cat are ready to escape life behind bars
Brutus the dog and Abby the cat are waiting at the Cobb County Animal Shelter for new owners and a new chance at life.
Some dogs have all the luck.
Although we can’t prove it, we think that may have been what crossed the mind of Brutus as he sat in cage 853 watching another dog walk out the door of the Cobb County Animal Control shelter on the way to a new home this afternoon.
Brutus has been in the shelter since he was found as a stray during the first week of November.
Despite his formidable name, he has a sweet disposition and warms up to people right away, showing off a big smile when anyone walks up to his cage.
Unlike many of the other dogs, Brutus doesn’t bark to get attention. He simply wags his tail and waits patiently until someone takes notice.
Brutus' cage card suggests he is a German Shepherd mix, but his exact breed is unknown. Whatever his background, he is a big dog weighing around 75 pounds. His head is disproportionately large in relation to his body--a trait that making him even more adorable.
Brutus has already been microchipped and is ready and waiting for a new home.
Cat of the Week
Down the hall in the room reserved for cats, Abby, a three-year-old black feline with large green eyes and long silky hair, was washing her face when we walked in. (Our guess is that she was getting prettied up for the camera.)
Once finished bathing, she began sticking her paws through cage 680 to attract attention.
We quickly noticed that her paws were softer than those of the other cats. Turns out, Abby was declawed by her former owner—and microchipped—before they turned her in.
Abby is very friendly, is good with kids and other animals, and is already litter-box trained.
Because she is declawed, she would do best in an indoor home where she can continue primping for impromptu photo shoots.
