Original Story

A shooting in Mableton just before 9 p.m. Saturday has left one woman dead. Cobb Police are calling the shooting a homicide.

According to Cobb Police Spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce, officers arrived to 988 Mable Street in response to a 911 call that a person had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found 45-year-old Janice Oates of Mableton dead on the floor from a gunshot wound.

Police have arrested Oates' live-in boyfriend, 46-year-old Thomas Schwartz, and charged him with murder.

According to neighbors who spoke to Channel 2 Action news Saturday night, Oates worked at the nearby Dairy Queen.

They said Oates' boyfriend ran into the Dairy Queen screaming that she had been shot.

The neighbors said they had an idea who may have shot him, and that the person they had in mind was "a real bad guy."

Cobb detectives are not releasing the motive for the shooting at this time.

Schwartz is being held without bond at the Cobb County Jail.
