Obits: Eddie Cato, Phillip Flowers and Richard Reider Pass Away

Funeral services for Richard Reider and Phillip Flowers will be held Tuesday.

Eddie Palmer Cato, age 74 of Austell, died April 18, 2012. He was an Air Force veteran, member of Bethel Baptist Church, Latham Lodge #12, Sweetwater Shrine Club, Yaarab Temple in Atlanta, and had retired as ranger at the Girl Scout Timberridge Camp.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Edie Lynn Cato. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sadie Carter Cato; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Jones and Billy of Acworth; two grandchildren, Anna Marie Jones and Jackson Palmer Jones; two sisters, Mary Ellen Taylor of Phoenix, AZ, and June Wagner of Greer, SC; bother, Evans Cato of Valdosta.

Funeral services were held Friday at 11 a.m. at , with Rev. Dennis Bellamy and Rev. Michael Crawford officiating. Interment followed in Mozley Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs.

Commander Richard Kenneth Reider, USN (retired), age 88 of Austell, formerly of Elizabethtown, PA , died April 20, 2012. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1941. His plan was to see the world, go home and get a job, but WWII changed his mind. After two years of working on aircraft and searching for German submarines, he returned to the U.S. and entered flight school. He received his Navy gold wings in 1945. He served 26 years in the Navy, retiring in 1966. During his career he had hundreds of aircraft carrier take off and landings logged as a naval aviator. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Missouri. He received a Bachelors of Science from USN Post Graduate School and a Master of Arts in Mathematics from Duke University. After retiring from the Navy, he taught advanced math at Westminster Schools in Atlanta for 20 years and was head of the math department. He and his wife enjoyed traveling the world to 72 countries and visiting family and friends.

He is survived by the love of his life, Jean Wise Reider; daughter, Carol Paulsen of Virginia; son, Richard E. Reider of Atlanta; sister, Arlene Barnes of Elizabethtown, PA; two grandchildren, Kenneth Paulson and Dana Matuszak and five great grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Lakeview Room with Rev. Debbie Wells officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Caring Fund of the Presbyterian Village, 2000 East West Connector, Austell, GA 30106.

Phillip Dayton Flowers, age 57 of Mableton, passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2012.

Born to Dayton Ohio Flowers and Betty Black Flowers on September 26, 1954 in Atlanta, he was the owner and operator of his printing company, Flowers Printing Inc. for more than 25 years before retiring. He had been a Mableton resident for all of his life and graduated in 1972 from .

He is preceded in death by his father, Dayton O. "Tiger" Flowers. Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Jackie Williams Flowers of Mableton; son, Christopher Phillip Flowers of Hiram; mother, Betty B. Flowers of Mableton; sister, Carol and her husband, Bud Durand of Hiram; sister, Marlene and her husband, Doug Davis of Dallas; niece, Jennifer and her husband, Scott Roma of Paulding County; niece, Michelle and her husband, Michael Wigley of Paulding County; niece, Beth and her husband, Jason Brice of Paulding County; niece, Mandy and her husband, Kenny Mitchell of Paulding County; uncle, John Flowers of Cartersville; aunt, Dorothy B. Smith of South Carolina; seven great-nieces; three great-nephews and many cousins.
