MomsTalk: Push-Up Bikinis for Elementary Students?

How do you determine age-appropriate swimwear and clothing during the hot summer months? When is it just too much?

Since spring break just passed and summer break is fast approaching, we wanted to get your thoughts on age-appropriate dress in terms of swimwear or summer clothing. As the weather heats up, everyone wants to be cooler with short sleeves or shorts or capris. How do you ensure that your children are wearing age-appropriate clothing? What rules do you enforce in terms of clothing?
Here's a recent story about Abercrombie Kids' recent push-up bra bikini for 7-14 year-olds. What are your thoughts on this?

From Kiddada Grey, South Cobb area mother of three:

Age appropriate Clothing:

Parents need to remember that they are parents and ensure that children dress like children. My 12-year-old daughter does not get to select her clothing.  I don't see the purpose in letting here wear clothing that was made for adult women. I also don't take her to stores where the little girl outfits are the same in the women's sections of department stores. I share with her that she is not old enough to wear that and she will carry herself as a young lady as long as she can.

In regards to the Abercrombie and Fitch push-up bra swimsuit, it is their right to create whatever they want. That is their business. It is my choice as a parent to entertain that kind of foolishness or not. I choose not to. I don't see the hurry to make my little girl into a grown adult woman before her time.
