McDonald's Owner of 50 Years Passes Away

Obituaries of people who lived in or were from South Cobb.

Jim Taylor, age 75 of Mableton, passed away Jan. 28. “Big Jim” was a resident of Cobb County since 1971, was owner-operator of McDonald's for over 50 years and was active in Cobb County Parks and Recreation. He is survived by his wife, Sandra E. Taylor; children, Tammy Taylor of Austell, Steve Taylor of Austell, Vicki Murray of Boston, Christopher Taylor of Austell and Susan Taylor of Mableton; brothers, Brown Altman and Ronnie Altman, both of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Meredith, Andrew, Brendon, Austin, and Jimmy; and one great-granddaughter, McKenzie. A memorial service honoring his life was held at Davis-Struempf Chapel on Thursday, February 2. In lieu of flowers memorials may be offered to Cobb Street Ministries, 3970 Ewing Road, Austell, GA 30106. Arrangements are with Davis-Struempf Funeral Home & Crematory, Austell.

Michael Shawn York, age 32 of Mableton, passed away Jan. 29. He is survived by his mother, Irene York; father, Bobby Ray York; sister, Amanda Spriggs; and niece, Summer Spriggs. Funeral services were held at Davis-Struempf Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Feb. 2, with Bishop H. Alan Mushegan Jr. officiating. Interment followed at Mt. Harmony Memorial Gardens.

Teresa Kindley Trombley, age 41 of Austell, passed away Jan. 31. She graduated from South Cobb High School and North Georgia Technical School and was employed in the food service industry. She is survived by her mother, Delores Kindley of Austell; daughter, Hannah Trombley of Dallas; brothers, Carl Kindley of Colbert, and Eric Kindley of Austell; many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Funeral services were held at Davis-Struempf Chapel on Friday, Feb. 3. Arrangements are with Davis-Struempf Funeral Home and Crematory, Austell, GA.

Charles  "Charlie" S. Parris died Feb. 3 at the age of 95. He was a resident of Austell for 75 years. Charlie is survived by his brother, J.T. Parris of Mableton and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 6 at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Dr. Tom Howell officiating. Interment was in Mozley Memorial Gardens.
