From Tom Bevirt, former Powder Springs Councilman

Dear Readers:

I hope that everyone has a nice 4th of July.

Right now, I must continue with news that affects or will do so if the July 31 T-Splost referendum passes. Even if you ordinarily don't interest yourself in these matters it is vital that you do so, now. It will only pass if folks leave it to someone else.

The vote is part of the Democrat or Republican primary election ballot process. This is not complicated and no one will know how you voted on this issue. You and yours will find out what the outcome will be as the years go by, and you will not like it one bit. You will be asking yourself "just how did this happen?"

For 12 years I and Mayors and fellow Council Members often remonstrated about why did previous councils do this or that. I firmly believe that all of us often said quite openly that we must remember that our vote would be felt for years, long after we were no longer at the tables. So this is your opportunity to contribute positively to the future by going to the uncrowded polls or vote absentee, then simply vote NO on this referendum.

A volunteer organization has filed a lawsuit against the Georgia Secretary of State because concerning this issue is misleading and maybe illegal. That does not say that you should assume that the whole issue will now be thrown in court and that you will not have to weigh in on it.

By now, everyone will know that there is no certainty in the courts and the founders of our Nation wanted the citizens to make decisions wherever possible. You can find out so much more about this issue by going to: www.traffictruth.net

One matter more: The leading consumer organization Georgia Public Policy Foundation did a study of this whole issue and questioned the good sense of it. You can find the complete statement on the above web site.

Compare that with the special interest Cobb Chamber of Commerce that came out this week in support of the measure. That figures, their big shot cronies have been pumping millions into a campaign of propaganda for months now.

You can view articles on this at Patch. Please do that and tell your friends, enemies, neighbors to go to the polls and vote no. I did so this morning at a Doctors waiting room So you probably look better than me and can convince lots of folks to vote.

Thanks for reading, coming up candidates for County offices.
