Immigrant Students Protest at Pebblebrook

About 100 students walked out of Pebblebrook High today at 2 p.m. protesting H.B. 87.

Nearly 100 students from Pebblebrook High School began a peaceful protest at 2 p.m. as soon as they exited the school doors.

Many of the students are undocumented and voiced they they are not afraid, but they are upset about the new law that Gov. Nathan Deal signed on Friday, which will allow law enforcement officials to request proof of citizenship from anyone they find suspicious.

The Atlanta City Council, the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, among other groups asked Deal to veto the bill, which they felt would be detrimental to the economy and tourism industry of Georgia if signed into law.Β

Proponents of the law say that it will help Georgia citizens find jobs that undocumented immigrants hold and will help save money on the services used by undocumented immigrants.

We will be reporting this on the scene and will have more to update you with soon.
